Located 99 km from Mingora in the northern upper reaches of Swat Valley, rests the majestic plateau of Kalam. Nestled in the heart of lush green hills, thick pine forests, crystal clear lakes, fertile meadows and gushing waterfalls, Kalam is the ultimate tourist haven.
At an elevation of 2000 meters (6,600) feet above sea level, this is the mating point of Ushu and Utrot river and the birthplace of Swat river.
A doorway to adjacent valleys, the picturesque Kalam provides road access to travelers seeking to explore Usho, Gabral, Utror and Maltiltan, accessible only through jeep rides. Each an exotic hill station is guaranteed to take your breath away with its ethereal landscape. Especially the captivating view of the snow-capped peak of Falaksair from Maltiltan is a treat for the curious eyes.
The valley is also blessed with a mesmerizing collection of alpine glacial lakes, the most enchanting being the Mahodand and Kundol lake which can be reached by a tedious trek amidst lush green trails or through a un-metalled road in a 4X4 vehicle.
